PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To permit an optimum release according to an AF system performed from a live view state. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus includes: a display means 417 for displaying an image; first automatic focusing means 413, 402 and 407 and second automatic focusing means 418, 423, 424 and 425 for performing an automatic focusing operation; an optical path splitting means for guiding light passed through an imaging optical system to the automatic focusing means; a live view control means 402 for retracting the optical path splitting means from the optical path of the imaging optical system, and causing the display means to display an image imaged by an imaging means; a first switch 113 for causing the automatic focusing means to perform first and second automatic focusing operations; a second operating member SW2 for recording an image on a recording medium; and an image recording control means 402 with which during the first automatic focusing operation by the operation of the first switch, recording of an image on a recording medium by the operation of the second switch is inhibited, and during the second automatic focusing operation, the recording of an image on a recording medium is permitted.
