PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a brake system capable of preventing braking responsiveness from decreasing due to a knock back and uneven wear of a disc rotor and a brake pad. SOLUTION: Normally, a hydraulic pressure generated at a master cylinder 4 is supplied directly to a disc brake 2 by the operation of a brake pedal 19, generating a braking force. The braking force can also be generated by operating a hydraulic pressure pump motor 7 and supplying a hydraulic pressure to the disc brake 2 by a controller 14. When a knock back occurs due to sharp turn or the like, a piston 16 is allowed to move rearward, thus preventing uneven wear of a brake pad 17 and a disc rotor 18. When elements of the knock-back are then released, the hydraulic pressure pump motor 7 is operated by the controller 14 to move the piston 16 forward and to adjust a pad clearance, thus preventing braking responsiveness from being degraded.
