PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the total power consumption of a printer or the like during its standby period. SOLUTION: When a printing standby state continues for a predetermined time or longer, a POS printer 1 shifts to a low power consumption state. In the low power consumption state, a printer unit 10 is brought into a power saving state, an A/C power source unit 30 is brought into a sleep state, and generation of power consumption of the A/C power source unit 30 itself is prevented. An I/F board 20 incorporates a secondary battery 21, and during the low power consumption state, the I/F board 20 is maintained so that it is ready to receive print data from a host device 2 by power from the secondary battery 21. When the I/F board 20 receives print data during the low power consumption state, it outputs a trigger signal to return the A/C power unit 30 to the previous state. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
