PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a needle guard having a simple structure with a reduced number of components and preventing damage or breakage of a needle about the lower dead center when sewing. SOLUTION: A looper 3 for forming a stitch in cooperation with a needle is disposed below a needle plate 4, and a first needle guard 7 is disposed below the looper 3 to be moved forward and backward in association with the spindle. The first needle guard 7 is provided with a needle guide portion 6 for guiding the movement of a needle when the looper 3 hooking a needle thread loop. A second needle guard 8 is provided below the needle guide portion 6. A needle-support portion 9 provided at the second needle guard 8 is positioned above the lower end of the needle at the lower dead center and below the needle guide portion 6, and when the needle is curved rearward near the lower dead center, the needle support portion makes contact with the needle and supports the needle.
