PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat insulation material for use in an external insulation method for mounting the heat insulation material on the outside of a building, wherein the heat insulation material is free from internal condensation, completely achieves wall surface waterproofing, and allows optional selection of a coating finishing material to be applied to the heat insulation material, and to provide a method of mounting the heat insulation material, and a method of arranging a waterproof layer on the heat insulation material. SOLUTION: In formation of the heat insulation material, a vapor permeable groove 2 is formed in the closed-cell foamed heat insulation material 1, and a thin space 5 for releasing vapor is secured between a surface serving as a substrate of the heat insulation material 1, and the heat insulation material 1, to thereby impart the heat insulation material performance of releasing vapor from a wall body 8.
