PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alignment film which has an excellent liquid crystal aligning property, and which is scarcely discolored. SOLUTION: An alignment film which is obtained from a varnish containing a component (I) with a photo-aligning property and a heat curing property and a component (II) forming a film not through heat curing, wherein at least the component (I) is a component unevenly distributed to one surface of the film, and which is composed of a component formed of the component (I), unevenly distributed to the one surface, aligned and cured, and the component (II), is provided, and a liquid crystal display element having the alignment film as a liquid crystal alignment film is provided.
