<p>Flavines, flavones and flavonoids (I) are used as initiators in a method for immobilising polymeric hydrogels on polymer substrate surfaces by coating the surface with a hydrogel-forming polymer and then exposing the resulting hydrogel layer to electromagnetic radiation. A method for immobilising a polymeric hydrogel on a polymer substrate surface involves coating at least part of the surface with a composition containing hydrogel-forming polymer(s) plus flavines, flavones, flavonoids or their derivatives (I) as initiators and then exposing the coating to electromagnetic radiation. An Independent claim is also included for a polymer substrate coated with an immobilised layer of hydrogel containing (I).</p> |
