The starting unit has a hydrodynamic clutch (1) with a pump wheel (2) and a turbine wheel (3). The starting unit has an adjustment mechanism (10) which forms a moving piston (12) or is connected to a moving piston in an actuating manner. The moving piston is impinged by an adjustment with a working medium from a control cable (11), in order to move a throttle component (9) away from a circuit current (5). The adjustment mechanism is assigned to the lock-up clutch such that the adjustment mechanism acts together on the lock-up clutch by adjustment of the lock-up clutch in an actuating manner. An independent claim is included for a method for varying the power transmission with a starting unit.
