The device has a sensor detecting distinctive characteristics of a transport unit and recurring time, where the characteristics and the time are compared with recurring time and characteristics detected by a successive sensor. The unit is recognized at successive measuring points based on the characteristics. The recurring time is associated to the transport unit, which is identified during violation of traffic by electronic or film-image recording containing a number plate, the detected transport unit with additional time and location information, using an electronic camera.
