<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition comprising a ketone body and/or its metabolic precursor. <P>SOLUTION: This composition comprising a ketone body and/or its metabolic precursor is suitable for administration to human and animals, and has especially characteristics of (i) increasing in the efficiency of heart, especially in the efficiency of the use of glucose, (ii) especially supplying the energy sources in diabetes and in the condition of insulin resistance, (iii) treating the diseases caused by the damage of brain cell, especially retardation or prevention of the damage of brain at the brain site related to memory observed especially in Alzheimer disease and the similar conditions. These compositions may be taken in, for example, as a nutritious supplement of athletes, or for the therapy of medicinal condition, especially for the conditions of low heart efficiency, insulin resistance, and that related to nerve damage.
