Disclosed is a laser welding method for a synthetic resin. An upper member is made of a synthetic resin which allows a laser beam to exit, and a lower member is made of a synthetic resin which absorbs a laser beam and emits heat. To heat weld the rims of the upper member and the lower member to each other, the rim of the upper member to be welded to that of the lower member is provided with a stepped rib, and a jig is arranged to press the rib against the lower member. Rims of the upper member and the lower member are heat welded to each other through a laser beam in a state where the rib of the upper member is pressed downward by the jig. The rib is extended from the portion of the upper member to be welded, and the jig presses the rib against the lower member, to thereby laser weld the upper member and the lower member to each other in a tight manner by a high compression force without using glass or the like. This prevents faulty welding. Further, the lower member is held by a cradle in a stable manner, which allows for laser welding of upper and lower members having a wide variety of shapes. |
