<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell in which face pressure of a power generation face of the unit cell is uniformized. <P>SOLUTION: This is the fuel cell which includes the unit cell 10, an end plate 34 arranged opposing to the unit cell 10, a plate state elastic layer 40 arranged between the unit cell 10 and the end plate 34, and a fastening device 36 to fasten the unit cell 10 by applying a load to the end plate 34, and in which slits 401 of the width direction are installed in the elastic layer 40.
