PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for directly injecting emergency core cooling water into a reactor vessel where infiltration effects into the core are improved by making the safety injection water discharged from an injector form a jet stream so as to minimize the present statuses of bypass blowdown and boiling inside a downcomer section of the safety injection water (emergency core cooling water) injected directly by way of an injection nozzle in case of the fracture of a cold leg. SOLUTION: The direct injection device located in the direct injection nozzle of the reactor vessel to directly inject the safety injection water inside the reactor vessel in an emergency core cooling system of a reactor consists of a jet nozzle provided in a horizontal section where the direct injector is jointed to the direct injection nozzle and which is extended horizontally inward the reactor vessel, in a vertical section extended vertically from the end of the horizontal section toward the core inlet plenum and at the end of the vertical section and formed so that the diameter of the nozzle can reduce gradually to spout the safety injection water supplied from the vertical section by forming the jet stream.
