PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a temporary guide device for a gondola, which facilitates temporary setting thereof, and allows the operator to carry out work while minimizing sagging and effectively preventing rocking, and to provide a temporarily guiding method. SOLUTION: The temporary guide device is formed of: temporary guide ropes 11 which are each formed of a non-metallic fiber rope, and set in an area from an upper portion of a structure 1 to a lower portion of a working range of the gondola 4 or 6 while having tensile force applied thereto; fixing members 12 which each fix the temporary guide ropes 11 having the tensile force applied thereto, to the structure 1 at a plurality of locations at predetermined intervals; and sliding guide members 13 which are provided for the gondola 4 or 6, each slidably mounted on the temporary guide rope 11 along the same, and capable of overriding the fixing members 12. Thus sagging of each temporary guide rope 11 can be prevented by applying the tensile force thereto, between the fixing members 12, 12, and by virtue of the sliding guide members 13 that can override the fixing members 12, restrictions to the working range is eliminated. Further by virtue of each temporary guide ropes 11 spaced only a narrow interval away from the structure, and having the tensile force applied thereto, the rocking of the gondola is prevented to the minimum.
