PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radiation image photographing system using an FPD (a flat panel detector), capable of compressing the photographed image data at a high compression rate with characteristics of the FPD taken into consideration. SOLUTION: The radiation image photographing system includes: a radiation image detection device 6 provided with a defect information storage part 662 for storing positional information of a defect detecting element of an imaging panel 62, an interpolation process part 602 for interpolating image databased on the positional information of the defect detecting element stored in the defect information storage part 662, a compression process part 601 for compressing the image data interpolated by the interpolation process part 602 and creating compressed image data, and a transmission/receiving part for transmitting the compressed image data; and a control device 7 having an extension process part for extending the compressed image data received from the radiation image detecting device 6.
