An automotive fuel-injected engine has pistons with a detent-profiled top surface and inner rim. The profile is a half-dumbbell with a raised center section terminating below the piston top surface, and forming an undercut cavity at two opposite outer extremes. The profile has only rounded or straight surfaces. Further claimed is a process for manufacture of a commensurate piston.
