<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color filter with which an optical function of a retardation layer is effectively utilized in a retardation layer on the color filter. <P>SOLUTION: The color filter 10 is used for a transflective liquid crystal display device and has a transmissive section 1 and a reflective section 2, wherein a coloring layer 27 with a prescribed color is formed in the transmissive section 1, and in the reflective section 2 the color filter 10 is constructed by preparing a layer K produced by forming the coloring layer 27 with the prescribed color so as to be thinner than that in the transmissive section, or is constructed by setting the thickness of the coloring layer 27 with the prescribed color to be zero, or with respect to part of the reflective section 2 by setting the thickness of the coloring layer 27 with the prescribed color to be zero, a thickness difference reducing layer 14 for reducing the thickness difference from that of the transmissive section 1 is provided on the reflective section 2 or on part thereof, and the retardation layer 12 is laminated directly or indirectly at least with respect to the reflective section 2.
