PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of shortening a transferring time needed when data with a large amount of data except image data are transferred between controlling boards, a data transferring method and a data transferring program. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 100 is an apparatus in which a first controlling unit 40 performing an image forming processing and a second controlling unit 50 for expanding function perform data communication. The image forming apparatus 100 has an extracting means 91 for extracting transferring data RCb transferred to the first controlling unit 40 from input data PD in the second controlling unit 50, a receiving waiting condition shifting means 95 for shifting a first interface 81a having a large amount of data transferring per unit time to the data receiving waiting condition in the first controlling unit 40, and a transferring means 931 for transferring the transferring data RCb to the first controlling unit 40 in the second controlling unit 50 when the first interface 81a is shifted to the data receiving waiting condition.
