An accumulator plate consists of rectangular tubes made of fabric stiffened with resin and connected together by webs a of the same fabric. The fabric may be made from bulked yarn and may consist of woven or knitted polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride or a polyester resin of terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol. The fabric is formed into tubes which are lightly impregnated with phenol formaldehyde and into which aluminium mandrels are inserted, the whole being then heated to cure the resin and cause the tubes to shrink and become rigid. The mandrels contract sufficiently when cold to enable them to be removed. Specifications 598,415, 732,929 and 821,577 are referred to. |
