PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a switchgear with an exciting rush current suppressor which suppresses so-called transformer-exciting rush current that is a transient large current flowing through a distribution line when a transformer installed on the distribution line is powered by a power system, and which has a small size, a long life, and large current rating. SOLUTION: The switchgear includes a first main contact 1, and a second main contact 2 connected in parallel to a resistance circuit 3a having a throw resistance contact 3 and a throw resistance 4 and to the first main contact 1. Movable contactors of the second main contact 2 and the throw resistance contact 3 are connected mechanically and are driven by the same driving source. When the power system is turned on, the contacts 1, 2, and 3 operate such that the throw resistance contact 3 closes, the second main contact 2 closes, the first main contact 1 closes, the throw resistance contact 3 opens, and then the second main contact 2 opens in order.
