In a method of making brazed expanded steel honeycomb cones a steel sheet is located between brackets, a set of strips of brazing foil laid across the sheet, a second sheet is laid on the first and a second set of strips of brazing foil is laid across the second sheet to lie alternately with the first strips of foil, the laying of alternating sets of brazing foil continuing between successive sheets until a pack is built up. Pneumatically-operated pivoted arms 5, Fig. 2, carrying spools 4 for the brazing strips 3 are disposed on opposite sides of slotted brackets 2, the spools on one side being opposite a space between adjacent spools on the other side. Sheets 1 are fed by a pneumatic suction pad between the brackets 2 and the arms 5, to the right and left of the brackets, pivot alternately to lay strips of brazing foil across the sheets in sequence with the sheet feed so that a stack of sheets with spaced foil strips between, each layer of strips being alternately located with the layer above or below, is formed. The stack is then removed to a brazing fixture, cut longitudinally into several cores and finally expanded to form a honeycomb.
