A description is given of a security paper (15) having an embedded security thread (7), which is embedded in the paper in such a way that it is freely accessible in some regions. The security thread (7) has a width which is greater than 2 mm. The security paper (15) consists of at least two layers of paper (6, 9), which are produced on separate paper systems. The security thread (7) is embedded in the first layer of paper (6), which has openings (16) or recesses in its surface, through which the thread is partially accessible on both sides. This first layer of paper (6) is covered with at least one second layer of paper (9) and joined firmly to the latter, the second layer of paper (9) having a thickness of 10 to 50%, preferably 20%, of the total thickness of the security paper (15). By means of the use of particularly wide security threads and the associated possibility of providing the threads with specific optical effects, the security against falsification of the security paper (15) equipped therewith can be improved. <IMAGE> |
