Provided is a process for producing silicon-containing particles having an extremely small particle diameter by a simple procedure without using any surfactant or the like. This process is characterized in that the silicon-containing particles are formed in a liquid, molten, or solution-state homogeneous phase which comprises a combination of a curable silicon compound curing through an addition reaction, condensation reaction, ring-opening reaction, radical reaction, or other reaction or a curable composition containing the silicon compound and a silicon-free organic polymer which does not participate in the curing reaction of the silicon compound or composition thereof, by causing the silicon compound or composition thereof to undergo a curing reaction, the silicon-containing particles being formed as a phase separated from the organic polymer.
