The mechanism (1) has a housing cover (3) forming an axial seal of a steering gear housing (2) which passes through by an axially displaceable component (4) of a steering gear (5). A guide sleeve (7) for the displaceable component is integrated in an axially outer area (6) of the cover. The guide sleeve is casted as an insertion part in a casting mold for the housing cover. The guide sleeve is made of plastic such as polypropylene, polyoxymethylene, polyphenyleneether, polyethyleneterephtalate or polybuthyleneterephtalate, or composite material made from metal and plastic or babbitt metal.
