<p>A banknote identifying device for accurately identifying whether a banknote is authentic even if a crease is formed in the watermark of the banknote. The banknote identifying device comprises banknote reading means (8), a converting section (232) for converting the watermark image which is read by the banknote reading means (8) for each pixel having color information which includes the brightness and having a predetermined size as a unit, an image correcting section (231) for calculating, from the watermark image of each pixel converted by the converting section (232), an average density value of each pixel line in one direction, an average density value of each pixel line in the other direction, and an average density value of the whole watermark image and correcting the density value of each pixel so that the density value of each pixel may be approximated to the average density value of the whole watermark image or may agree with that, a reference data storage section (233) holding every pixel of a reference watermark image serving as a comparative reference, and an identifying section (235) for identifying whether the banknote is authentic by comparing the image corrected by the image correcting section (231) with the reference watermark image.</p> |
