Bolt action for firearm, receiver, bolt and bolt firearm

A bolt action (10) for a firearm comprises a bolt (14) with a removable handle (16), which can be attached to the bolt (14) for left handed use or for right handed use. The receiver (12) has slots (31, 34, 35) for back and forth movement of the bolt (14) and rotation of the bolt (14) to left or to right to close the chamber and has apertures (19, 21) for safe cartridge ejection either to the left or to the right according to the position of the handle (16). Primary cartridge extraction is provided for both in left handed and right handed use by a cam surface (22) of equilateral triangular shape on the receiver (12) and a co-acting shape on a neck of the handle(16) as well as protection against erroneous movement of the handle (16) to the wrong side, in use.
