<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light-emitting device capable of monitoring light output of a light emitting element, and of reducing a height thereof. <P>SOLUTION: A light-emitting device includes: a light-emitting element 1 composed of an LED chip; a mounting substrate 2 having a recessed storage portion 2a to store the light-emitting element 1 in one surface and being mounted with the light-emitting element 1; and a lenticular sealing portion 3 made of a translucent material (for example, silicone resin, acryl resin, epoxy resin, polycarbonate resin, glass etc.) which seals up the light-emitting element 1. A light receiving element 4 composed of a photo diode to detect light emitted from the light-emitting element 1 is provided on the overhanging portion 2C extending inwards from the periphery of the recessed storage portion 2a in the one surface side of the mounting substrate 1.
