PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten a time to be required for a user to exchange an e-mail by reducing a load on the operation of an e-mail authentication server which is connected to a private network communication passage. SOLUTION: A modem device includes an authentication function and a registration list. When the e-mail from the private network communication passage is received, originator information of the arrived e-mail is authenticated by using the authentication function and the registration list. When an authentication result passes, the e-mail is received as it is. Only when the originator information of the arrived e-mail does not exist in the registration list or the authentication result does not pass, authentication is instructed to an authentication server which is connected to the private network communication passage.
