PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which can shorten a time necessary for the recovery suction action as much as possible by comparison with conventional techniques while suppressing or preventing complication of the structure. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes branching pipe arrangements 91a-91d which communicate with cap surfaces of respective caps 89a-89d that cover ink ejection surfaces of inkjet heads 21a-21d, a unifying pipe arrangement 91e comprised of unification of the branching pipe arrangements 91a-91d, and a communication pipe arrangement 91f which makes a pump chamber 923 of a cylinder pump 92 and a disposal ink tank 94 communicate with the unifying pipe arrangement 91e. Solenoid valves 93a-93d are installed in the branching pipe arrangements 91a-91d, respectively. Ink channels between the cap surfaces of the caps 89a-89d and the unifying pipe arrangement 91e are opened and blocked by the opening and closing action of the solenoid valves 93a-93d.
