PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of washing a handrail belt capable of reducing cost and time for a masking operation and of performing a washing operation in a short time by improving the efficiency of the washing operation. SOLUTION: In this method of washing a handrail belt, while a passenger conveyor is operated, the surface of the handrail belt 3 is coated with a detergent, the contamination on the surface of the handrail belt 3 is removed by polishing the surface of the handrail belt 3 with an abrasive, and the surface of the handrail belt 3 is smoothened on a platform floor 5 on a platform side 4. The contamination and contaminated washing water containing chips which are present on the surface of the handrail belt 3 are wiped off and the surface of the handrail belt is wiped with water on the landing floor 7 on the landing side 6.
