The present invention relates to a process for preparing a porous metal organic framework comprising at least one at least bidentate organic compound coordinated to at least one metal ion, which comprises the step reaction of at least one metal compound with at least one at least bidentate organic compound which can coordinate to the metal, with the metal ion of the at least one metal compound being selected from the group of metals consisting of titanium, zirconium and hafnium and the at least one at least bidentate organic compound being derived from a dicarboxylic, tricarboxylic or tetracarboxylic acid, wherein the metal compound is an inorganic salt.
