The device has a processing air fan (12), a cooling air fan (17) and a laundry drum (2) operated with reduced average number of revolutions for a quiet drying process. The fans (12, 17) are operated with changeable maximum average number of revolutions for a fast drying process. The fans (12, 17) are operated by a common fan motor. The cooling air fan is operated with higher average number of revolutions than for the processing air fan. The number of revolutions of the fans (12, 17) is controlled in a temperature and/or moisture degree-dependent manner in a low-power drying process.
