A film of a metal or a semi-metal is formed on the surface of a soft magnetic powder containing iron and oxygen (Step S102). In this case, the formation of a silicon-containing film on the surface of the film is suitable. Subsequently, the soft magnetic powder is compression molded to prepare a molded product (Step S103). The film is a metal film or a semi-metal film having large ductility. Therefore, the density of the molded product produced by the compression molding is high and, at the same time, the occurrence of damage to the film such as cracking in the film can be prevented. This is true of the formation of the silicon-containing film. Next, the molded product is heat treated to oxidize the surface and interface of the soft magnetic powder constituting the molded product and thus to form an oxide film (Step S104). The occurrence of an eddy-current loss can be prevented by the oxide film. As a result, the productivity and the magnetic properties can be improved.
