The device (1) has a fiber optic cable (9) including an end (7a) that forms a luminous surface (5) and is visibly arranged in an opening (2) of a housing (3). The cable emits light by guiding light from another end (7b) of the cable to the former end. A display unit is arranged above the opening, so that the emitted light is partially reflected by the display unit. The display unit is formed as a surface (13) that enlarges the luminous surface and is arranged perpendicular to the luminous surface. The surface (13) is a structural component of the housing.
