METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR GENERATING THE DEPTH MAP OF VIDEO IMAGE

A method for generating the depth map of a video image and an apparatus thereof are provided to generate a recognizable stereoscopic image although an object between scenes is quickly converted in the video image. A background extractor(220) extracts a background except for an object from a video image. An image classifier(230) classifies the video image into a remote image and a non-remote image based on distribution values of the extracted background. In case the classified video image is the non-remote image, a depth value calculator(240) generates the depth value around the object.
