637,203. Preventing misting of windscreens. HUMBER, Ltd., and MELL, L. W. Oct. 24, 1947, No. 28534. [Class 20 (iii))] In apparatus for de-frosting or de-misting windows of vehicles, especially windscreens where a stream of air, usually preheated, e.g. by heat exchange with the engine cooling water, or with the exhaust gases, or by an electric heater, is directed over the window by means of one or more nozzles 1, the nozzle or nozzles direct the air towards the plane of the window to impingeeither on the window or on a surrounding surface adjacent to the window and co-planar therewith. The nozzles have mouths 4 of narrow rectangular section close to the windscreen 3. The bottom edge of the nozzle is close to the screen or frame and the upper edge is parallel to the plane of the screen and at a small distance therefrom. The side walls 5 of the nozzles are cut away to produce lateral blasts of air. The nozzles curve down over the top of a supply duct 6 of rectangular section which may form the lower rail of the windscreen and is supplied by a number of conduits 7. The apparatus may also supply cool air to the interior of a vehicle. |
