Improvements in acetylene lamps and acetylene generators

In acetylene lamps and generators of the type including an upper container for the water and a lower carbide container detachably fixed to said upper container and having valve means for controlling the passage of water from the water container to the carbide container, an obliquely directed guard or shield is provided attached to the bottom of said water container which partially surrounds the water outlet, and being adapted to direct the delivered water to a position near the wall of the carbide container so that the water from the outlet will fall on the guard or shield and be deflected to pass between the guard or shield and the wall of the lower container to the carbide. The guard or shield may be of an inverted half cone or similar shape and constructed with a flange by which it is attached to the bottom of the water container. In the Figure, the valve 17 controls the supply of water from the upper container 2 to the carbide container 1. The hollow shield is of inverted half cone shape 25, and its lower end 26 projects in the direction of the wall of the carbide receptacle, so that the water from the valve falls on to the shield and is directed to the carbide near the wall of the carbide receptacle.
