<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic traveling carriage exactly and smoothly travelable by a simple steering control on not only a straight line route but also a curved route and a route having a branch part, while reducing weight, size and cost of the whole of the carriage and reducing running cost including maintenance. <P>SOLUTION: This trackless automatic traveling carriage 1 is provided with at least three wheels 4 to 6 including a pair of front and rear wheels 4 and 5, a wheel driving mechanism 9, a detection means 20 along the traveling route to detect a guide mark 19 provided on a floor surface, and a steering control mechanism 21 for controlling a moving direction based on the detection result of the guide mark 19 by the detection means 20. The detection means 20 is constituted to move in the left and right directions according to the moving direction of the carriage 1 controlled by the steering control mechanism 21.
