A monitoring system (10) and method is provided for a vehicle or tire monitoring. The system (10) includes a service station (40) through which the vehicle passes (42, 44). While situated within the service station (40), an initiation signal is generated prompting data transmission from wheel unit (12) based monitoring device (20) to a receiver (28). An output device may be employed to visually display information responsive to the transmitted data.
