A display device and a driving method thereof are provided to reduce the number of wirings by reducing the gate control signal inputted to the gate driving circuit. A display device comprises a display panel(30), a data driving circuit(32), a gate driving circuit(33), a controller(31) and a control signal generating section. The display panel has pixels. The pixels are arranged in the cross points of the gate lines and the data lines. The data driving circuit supplies the video data signal to the data lines. The gate driving circuit successively supplies the gate pulse to the gate lines. The controller generates the first signal. The first signal controls the output of the gate driving circuit. The control signal generating section generates the second and third control signals by delaying the first signal. The second controlling signal controls the shift operation of the gate driving circuit. The third control signal starts the operation of the gate driving circuit.
