TOGGLE-ACTION DISPENSING CLOSURE WITH AN ACTUATION-PREVENTION ABUTMENT AND A RECESSED STRIKER RIB

A toggle-action dispensing closure (20) for a container is provided for manipulation between a closed, non-dispensing orientation and an open, dispensing orientation. The closure (20) includes an actuator (60) pivotally mounted along a tilting axis (T) on a body (24) secured to the container. Th e actuator (60) is tiltable by applying force to the actuator (60) on one side of the tilting axis (T) so as to move the actuator (60) from a non-dispensin g position to a dispensing position. The actuator (60) includes a striker rib (140) extending downwardly at a position between an edge of the actuator (60 ) and the tilting axis (T). The body (24) includes a deck (28) defining a dispensing aperture (43) and supporting a post (110). The post (110) extends vertically to underlie the actuator (60), preventing tilting of the actuator (60) unless a sufficient opening force is exerted on the actuator (60) to cause the striker rib (140) to shear, or permanently deform, the post (110).
