The invention relates to a device for automatically detecting pedestrians on zebra crossings or pedestrian crossings, including at least two pairs of presence-sensing devices (1) located on either side of the pedestrian crossing (3) and connected to a set of light indicators (5) built into the road (6) and facing the direction or directions of vehicular traffic (7), said indicators being arranged so as to be clearly visible to the traffic on the road (6) and lighting up upon receiving the activation signal from the detectors (1).
