[Classes 75(ii), 75(iii) and 75(iv)] [Also in Groups VI and XX] In viewing apparatus comprising a magnifying eyepiece surrounded by a ring of arc-shaped tubular lamps for illuminating the object to be viewed, condenser lenses arranged in sector shaped groups co-operate with the lamps and each group is adjustable to give a concentrated beam or a diffuse beam. The apparatus is s intended particularly for medical or dental purposes. As shown in Figs. 1 and 4 the lens 8 is mounted in a circular casing 3 containing a number of arc-shaped lamp 6 behind which are reflectors 16. Condenser lenses 14 are joined together in groups before the lamps and can be rotated about the axes of the lamps by means of a circular flexible shaft 7 passing through the condenser mounts and having ends in the form of racks 7a, Fig. 2, engaging a shaft 9 connected by a gear 10 to a knob 11 in the handle. This knob can be rotated to contract the shaft 7 and so rotate the condensers to the desired angle. Daylight filters 13 may be fitted behind the condensers. The apparatus may be mounted by a ball and socket joint 15 on to the arm 4 of an adjustable articulated stand which may be fixed to a dentist's chair or operating table or mounted on wheels. The stand may be hollow and have a fan at its base to direct air through the stand and through the casing 3 to cool the lamps.
