An image processing device for offering image evaluation information and a method therefor are provided to enable a user to select a high-quality image to store the selected image, even without causing an excessive load to a backend chip. An encoding unit encodes an external image signal inputted from an image sensor, and generates encoded image data. An evaluator(211) performs evaluation of the image data by analysis information of the external image signal, and generates evaluation information. An interface unit(213) transmits the evaluation information of the image data to the outside. A storage unit stores the encoded image data. If plural image data are stored in the storage unit, one of the image data selected on the basis of the evaluation information is transmitted to the outside through the interface unit.
