The roof (7) has roof elements (7a, 7b) e.g. panels, for covering a part of a passenger compartment (9) of a soft top vehicle (1). An intermediate supporting and connecting structure (17) links the roof elements to a body shell (300) of the vehicle such that the roof elements are movable between a closed top position and an open position while retracting the roof elements at a gap of the passenger compartment. Locking units include two parts (20a, 20b) that are locked together in a releasable manner for retaining a roof in an open state. An independent claim is also included for a vehicle comprising a connecting rod.
