A patient support system to control support of a patient is provided. The system comprises a mattress having a number of inflatable chambers, a number of transmitters positioned proximal a surface of the inflatable chambers, a number of receivers positioned proximal a surface of the inflatable chambers, and a network having a number of controller area network nodes in communication with each other and to the transmitters and receivers.
