In an article of furniture 12 of the type having a seat assembly supported from a chair frame and an actuation mechanism 10 for enabling a leg rest assembly to move between a stowed position and an extended position, the mechanism comprising: a support shaft, a drive rod 26 spaced apart from the support shaft, a toggle link coupled to the drive rod 26 and a biasing assembly including a spring with a first end attached to the toggle link and a second end directly and slidably engaging the support shaft, whereby the second end is slidable along a substantially circular-shaped, unobstructed portion of the support shaft and parallel with an axis defined by the support shaft to align the spring thereon.
