An air-conditioner and an operation method thereof are provided to facilitate setting up address and facilitate distinguishing an indoor unit by setting up address based on the address data and automatically setting up the name of the indoor unit. An operation method of an air-conditioner comprises following steps. In case address set up command is input, one or more indoor units connected to a remote controller are searched and address data are requested with one indoor unit(S430). The address data are received from the indoor unit by corresponding with request(S440). The address information included in the address data is set up as the address for the central control of the indoor unit and the name of the indoor unit is automatically set up(S450). The name of the indoor unit is displayed on a screen. The indoor unit communicates by using the address for the central control(S410).
