A method for preparing an aromatic polyamide polymer is provided to maintain inherent viscosity of an aromatic polyamide polymer obtained through a polymerization process by controlling the content of moisture contained in a polymerization solvent to 50 ppm or less. A method for preparing an aromatic polyamide polymer comprises the steps of: dissolving inorganic salt in water, mixing the inorganic salt and organic solvent, and dehydrating the mixture to prepare a polymerization solvent with water content of 50 ppm or less; dissolving aromatic diamine in a polymerization solvent to prepare a mixed solution; and adding aromatic diacid halide to the solution and polymerizing aromatic diamine and aromatic diacid halide.
