A projector and a scanning control method thereof are provided to reduce power consumption even without deteriorating brightness of an image, or to improve the brightness of the image as consuming the same power. A receiver(110) receives image signals. A frame rate determiner(130) determines frame rates of the received image signals. A field separator(150) divides one frame of an image signal into plural fields according to the determined frame rates. A driving unit(190) determines a driving current value among currents of an applied laser light source in a scanning line of one field during one frame time. The driving unit generates a current corresponding to the determined driving current value. A laser light generator generates the laser light according to the generated current.
